What Nevada Is Best Known For
From boundless open roads to breathtaking wilderness, rich history, and one-of-a-kind attractions, Nevada captures the spirit of adventure and discovery—offering unforgettable experiences across its vast, diverse, and captivating landscapes.
Road Trips
Cowboys, counterculture, wildlife, and wilder tales—Nevada’s highways aren’t just a route, they’re the adventure. With over 60 million acres of public land, 80% wild and unfenced, the open road invites exploration. Drive the Loneliest Road in America or the Extraterrestrial Highway, detour through ghost towns, climb red-rock canyons, or discover outdoor art installations in unexpected places. From Las Vegas to Lake Tahoe, every mile reveals freedom, history, and surprises. Ghost towns, sweeping desert vistas, mountain passes, and remote wilderness ensure that adventure is never far off.
Outdoor Adventures
Whether it’s a bucket-list experience or the best wrong turn you ever take, Nevada is an outdoor paradise. With 27 state parks, two national parks, and millions of acres of public land—85% of it wild and unfenced—adventure is everywhere. Hike alpine trails or gentle rambles, explore pristine lakes and trout-filled streams, climb towering walls, tackle mountain bike singletrack, or soak in natural hot springs. From accessible spots near Las Vegas and Reno to remote backcountry trails and ghost towns, Nevada offers limitless ways to play beneath some of the darkest skies in the Lower 48.
Historic Highlights
Nevada’s history is as vast and colourful as its landscapes, shaped by larger-than-life characters and a spirit where anything seemed possible. From the Fremont and Ancestral Pueblo peoples to the Western Shoshone and Northern Paiutes, the Great Basin has been home to American Indians for tens of thousands of years. Follow the California Trail or the Transcontinental Railroad, explore the Comstock Lode boomtowns like Virginia City, or visit Hoover Dam’s engineering marvel. With ghost towns, historic saloons, and the rise of Las Vegas, Nevada offers a captivating journey through centuries of innovation, culture, and legend.
Uniquely Nevada
Nowhere else quite captures imagination like Nevada. Beyond its natural wonders and historic charm, the state is filled with delightfully offbeat attractions—from haunted hotels and mysterious ghost towns to art installations rising from the desert floor. Marvel at the neon glow of Las Vegas, explore the surreal landscapes of Fly Ranch Geyser, or visit paranormal pitstops that blur myth and reality. Quirky, intriguing, and undeniably distinctive, these experiences are what make Nevada truly one of a kind.
When To Visit
Nevada is one of the largest states in the US, and its sweeping variety of landscapes means no two seasons feel alike. From snow-dusted mountains to sun-soaked desert valleys, the state’s shifting climates offer something unique year-round—whether you’re seeking adventure, stunning scenery, or simply a change of pace.
Spring
Spring in Nevada ushers in warm days and crisp nights, ideal for hiking and exploring its wild, wide-open landscapes. Desert wildflowers paint the valleys with bursts of colour, while national and state parks—like Red Rock Canyon and Great Basin—are especially inviting before the heat of summer. Comfortable temperatures make this the perfect season for scenic drives, nature walks, and discovering the state’s quieter corners beneath bright blue skies.
Summer
Autumn
Autumn brings a welcome coolness to Nevada, making it another prime season for outdoor adventures. Hikers and road trippers will find the parks and trails bathed in golden light, with fewer crowds and pleasant daytime warmth. In the north, the aspen trees blaze with colour, while harvest festivals and local events add a lively, seasonal charm across small towns and scenic byways.
Winter
Winter transforms parts of Nevada into a playground for snow lovers. Lake Tahoe and Mount Rose are blanketed in powder, offering excellent skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing. Meanwhile, the desert’s cooler air makes it perfect for off-season hiking or exploring ghost towns and desert trails without the heat. Whether chasing snow or sunshine, winter in Nevada has a different kind of magic at every elevation.
Flight Information
Travellers from the UK and Ireland can fly direct to Las Vegas daily from London Heathrow, with additional seasonal services from London Gatwick, Manchester, and Dublin. Indirect one-stop flights to Reno are also available from London Heathrow and Manchester, offering convenient access to northern Nevada’s attractions.
