February 2025

In early December, a select group of three travel agents embarked on a luxury FAM trip to Thailand, led by Betsie from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). Flying in style with Thai Airways, the journey showcased some of the country’s finest high-end experiences, spanning Phuket, Krabi, and Bangkok. From the serene luxury of COMO Point Yamu to private yacht excursions and site inspections at Banyan Tree resorts, the trip blended relaxation with immersive exploration. In Bangkok, a Chao Phraya River dinner cruise and exclusive networking at The Peninsula rounded off an itinerary designed to inspire and deepen industry connections.

Day 1: A seamless start with Thai Airways

The FAM trip began at London Heathrow, where the small but excited group of three agents met with Betsie from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). With an itinerary promising luxury at every turn, the journey itself set the tone, starting with Thai Airways’ renowned Business Class experience.

Before departure, the group relaxed in the airline’s premium lounge, an oasis of calm away from the airport bustle. Here, they enjoyed a selection of international dishes, barista-made coffee, and a well-stocked bar. Comfortable seating, workspaces, and shower facilities ensured they could refresh before the long-haul flight ahead.

Boarding Thai Airways flight TG919, the team was warmly welcomed by the impeccably dressed cabin crew, whose signature hospitality made them feel instantly at ease. The Business Class cabin exuded comfort, with spacious lie-flat seats, plush bedding, and ample storage space for personal belongings. Shortly after take-off, the dining experience began – a carefully curated menu featuring Thai flavours and international cuisine, paired with fine wines and a selection of premium beverages.

Settling in for the overnight journey, the group made the most of the in-flight entertainment, offering a wide range of films, TV shows, and music. But it was the quiet cabin atmosphere and fully reclining seats that truly made the difference, ensuring everyone arrived in Phuket feeling refreshed and ready for the experiences ahead.

Day 2: A luxurious welcome to Thailand

Touching down in Phuket just after sunrise, the group’s first glimpse of Thailand was through the plane’s windows – lush greenery, golden beaches, and the shimmering Andaman Sea in the distance. The warm tropical air greeted them as they stepped off the aircraft, and after a swift journey through immigration and baggage claim, they were on their way to the first stop of the trip: COMO Point Yamu.

Nestled on the serene Cape Yamu, this luxury resort was the perfect retreat after the long flight. The team was welcomed with chilled towels and refreshing herbal drinks, a signature touch of COMO’s renowned service. Check-in was seamless, and soon, everyone was escorted to their rooms – spacious, light-filled havens with panoramic views of Phang Nga Bay. The combination of modern elegance and Thai-inspired design created an immediate sense of relaxation.

After a leisurely morning to settle in, the group reconvened in the late afternoon for an exclusive tour of the resort. From the infinity pool overlooking the bay to the world-class wellness facilities, COMO Point Yamu embodied understated luxury. The visit concluded with cocktails by the pool, where the agents had the chance to meet with hotel management and learn more about COMO’s unique approach to hospitality.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, the first evening in Thailand unfolded with an intimate private dining experience. A specially curated chef’s menu showcased the finest local ingredients, with dishes blending Thai flavours and international influences. It was a fitting start to the journey – an evening of exceptional cuisine, engaging conversation, and a breathtaking setting that set the stage for the days ahead.

Day 3: Island escapes and exclusive resort experiences

The first full day in Thailand promised adventure, and after a restful night at COMO Point Yamu, the group set off early for a private yacht excursion with Blue Voyage. A short transfer brought them to Visit Panwa Pier, where their sleek, modern yacht awaited. With the morning sun casting a golden glow over the calm waters, the agents settled in for a day of island-hopping in true luxury.

The first destination was Khai Nok Island, reached after just over an hour of smooth sailing. A picture-perfect paradise with powdery white sand and crystal-clear waters, it offered the perfect opportunity to unwind. Some of the group chose to lounge on the yacht’s deck with a carefully prepared picnic set, while others stepped ashore to swim and snorkel among colourful coral reefs teeming with marine life.

By late morning, it was time to return to Phuket, with the yacht gliding back towards the pier. While the day had been planned around the stunning seascape, a wet-weather alternative – a visit to the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary – had been in place, ensuring a meaningful experience regardless of conditions.

After an afternoon at leisure back at COMO Point Yamu, the evening brought a change of scenery. The group transferred to the renowned Banyan Tree Phuket, where they were given a private site inspection of the resort’s luxurious villas and wellness facilities. This was followed by a memorable dinner, joined by Roy Cavanagh, a respected travel writer from the Tourism Authority of Thailand. Over expertly prepared Thai cuisine, conversations flowed about the future of luxury travel in the region.

With the evening still young, the group took a short detour to Bangla Road, Phuket’s most famous nightlife strip. The neon lights, vibrant bars, and bustling energy offered a glimpse into the island’s lively entertainment scene. But with another packed itinerary ahead, they soon returned to the tranquility of COMO Point Yamu, ready to rest before the next chapter of their journey.

Day 4: Scenic journeys and a luxurious retreat in Krabi

The morning began with an early departure from COMO Point Yamu as the group embarked on a scenic transfer to Krabi, journeying through Phang Nga province. The drive, weaving along coastal roads and through lush rural landscapes, was an experience in itself. Along the way, the group made a stop at Samet Nangshee Viewpoint, one of southern Thailand’s most breathtaking panoramas. After a short ride up the hill in a local transfers vehicle, they were rewarded with sweeping views of Phang Nga Bay, where limestone karsts rose dramatically from the emerald waters. Cameras clicked as the group took in the serene beauty before continuing their journey.

By early afternoon, the team arrived in Krabi, where lunch awaited at Ruenmai Krabi Restaurant – a hidden gem known for its authentic southern Thai cuisine. Surrounded by tropical gardens, they dined on regional specialties, with fragrant curries, fresh seafood, and delicate coconut-infused dishes leaving a lasting impression.

With appetites satisfied, the group made their way to their next luxury stay: Banyan Tree Krabi. Nestled between lush jungle and the turquoise Andaman Sea, the resort was a sanctuary of peace. Check-in was seamless, and each guest was shown to their private villa, complete with its own plunge pool and uninterrupted ocean views. The rest of the afternoon was left open for leisure, allowing time to unwind by the infinity pool, explore the serene beach, or indulge in a spa treatment.

As the sun began to set, the group gathered for dinner at the resort, where they reflected on the journey so far. With the sound of gentle waves in the background and a menu crafted from the freshest local ingredients, the evening was a perfect blend of relaxation and indulgence. Tomorrow promised another adventure – this time, out at sea once more.

Day 5: Exploring the Andaman Sea – A private Phi Phi Islands experience

The day began with anticipation as the group departed Banyan Tree Krabi for a private speedboat excursion to one of Thailand’s most iconic destinations – the Phi Phi Islands. A short transfer brought them to the pier, where their sleek vessel awaited, ready to whisk them across the shimmering Andaman Sea.

As the boat sped over the glassy waters, the first stop was Maya Bay, made famous by The Beach. Though boats are no longer allowed to dock, the group admired the stunning limestone cliffs and pristine shoreline from a respectful distance, snapping photos of the legendary scenery. From there, the journey continued to more secluded spots, where the group had the chance to swim, snorkel, and take in the sheer beauty of the region.

The highlight of the day was a beachside lunch at a secluded cove, where the group dined on freshly grilled seafood, tropical fruits, and refreshing Thai salads. The warm sun, powder-soft sand, and crystal-clear waters made it an unforgettable setting.

By mid-afternoon, the speedboat returned to the pier, and the group made their way back to Banyan Tree Krabi for some well-deserved downtime. The resort’s tranquil setting provided the perfect opportunity to relax – some opted for a refreshing dip in their private pool, while others indulged in a rejuvenating treatment at the Banyan Tree Spa.

As evening approached, the group transferred to Ao Nang for a seafood feast at Wangsai Seafood Restaurant, a well-regarded local eatery. Over plates of succulent prawns, grilled fish, and rich Thai curries, conversations turned to the incredible landscapes and experiences of the day.

Returning to Banyan Tree Krabi, the group retired for the night, knowing that their journey was soon leading them to Thailand’s vibrant capital – Bangkok.

Day 6: From beachfront bliss to the bustle of Bangkok

The morning began at a leisurely pace, allowing the group to enjoy a late, indulgent breakfast at Banyan Tree Krabi. With no rush to check out, they took their time savoring tropical fruits, freshly baked pastries, and classic Thai breakfast dishes while soaking in the final views of Krabi’s serene coastline.

By mid-morning, it was time to depart. After checking out, the group was transferred to Krabi Airport, where they boarded their Thai Airways domestic flight to Bangkok. The short journey was smooth and comfortable, and within just over an hour, the bustling metropolis of Thailand’s capital came into view.

Upon arrival, a private transfer awaited to take them to their next stay: The Peninsula Bangkok, an icon of luxury along the Chao Phraya River. The group was swiftly checked in, with each agent being shown to their elegantly designed rooms offering panoramic views of the city skyline and river. After some time to freshen up, it was time to head out for the evening’s experiences.

Dressed for a night of fine dining and cultural exploration, the group boarded The Peninsula’s private water limousine, gliding across the river to their dinner venue, Supanniga Eating House. This chic yet unpretentious restaurant offered a refined take on Thai home-style cooking, with dishes rich in authentic flavors and heritage recipes.

The evening continued with a night-time visit to Wat Pho, one of Bangkok’s most revered temples. Under the soft glow of temple lanterns, the group wandered through the peaceful complex, admiring the grand architecture and intricate carvings without the usual daytime crowds. The experience felt almost mystical, a stark contrast to the city’s lively streets just beyond.

To complete the night, a traditional tuk-tuk ride took them back to The Peninsula Bangkok, where they retired to their luxurious rooms – ready for a day of business meetings and further exploration in the city.

Day 7: A day of business and cultural discovery in Bangkok

The morning began at The Peninsula Bangkok, where the group gathered at River Café & Terrace for breakfast. With the Chao Phraya River as their backdrop, they enjoyed a spread of freshly baked pastries, tropical fruits, and classic Thai breakfast options. Today’s schedule was more formal, and business attire was recommended for the first part of the day.

Shortly after breakfast, the agents made their way to the Sakuntala Ballroom, where they attended the Thai Airways ‘THAI Update’ session. The presentation covered the latest developments from the airline, giving insight into new routes, service enhancements, and future plans. A mid-morning coffee break allowed for networking before the next round of talks.

The guest speaker session followed, featuring representatives from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB). Each gave a concise but informative update on Thailand’s tourism industry, focusing on luxury and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) travel. The session wrapped up with a Q&A, offering the agents a chance to ask questions and gain further insights into how Thailand continues to evolve as a high-end travel destination.

Lunch was served back at River Café & Terrace, giving the group a chance to reflect on the morning’s discussions. With the formalities complete, the afternoon was all about exploring a different side of Bangkok. After changing into comfortable attire, the agents set out on a Thai Airways-organized excursion to one of the city’s most intriguing neighbourhoods – Talad Noi.

Often referred to as Bangkok’s ‘Little Chinatown,’ Talad Noi is a blend of heritage, local businesses, and vibrant street art. As they wandered through its narrow lanes, they discovered traditional shophouses, hidden temples, and striking murals painted onto crumbling walls. It was a refreshing contrast to the city’s towering skyscrapers, offering a glimpse into Bangkok’s past while embracing its modern artistic flair.

The day ended in style at The Peninsula Lawn, where the group sampled THAI Airways’ newly curated cocktails, crafted with local ingredients and inspired by Thai flavours. As the sun set over the river, conversation flowed, leading seamlessly into the evening’s grand finale – a Chao Phraya River dinner cruise.

Gliding past Bangkok’s illuminated skyline, the agents dined on a multi-course Thai feast, taking in views of iconic landmarks such as Wat Arun and the Grand Palace. The gentle sway of the boat, combined with the city’s glittering lights, created an unforgettable atmosphere – one that perfectly captured the essence of Bangkok’s blend of tradition and modern luxury.

With another full day behind them, the group returned to The Peninsula Bangkok, reflecting on a trip that had not only showcased Thailand’s high-end travel offerings but also its deep cultural heart.

The final full day in Thailand began once again at The Peninsula Bangkok, where the group gathered for a relaxed breakfast at River Café & Terrace. With a busy morning ahead, they enjoyed the riverside setting while indulging in a selection of freshly made pastries, tropical fruits, and traditional Thai breakfast dishes.

Dressed in business attire, the agents made their way to their last formal engagement of the trip – an agents’ discussion with Thai Airways Commercial Management at Kusuma Venue. This final session provided valuable insights into the airline’s future strategies, allowing for an open dialogue about travel trends, luxury experiences, and partnership opportunities. It was an informative way to wrap up the business side of the trip, leaving the agents with a clearer understanding of Thai Airways’ commitment to premium travel.

Lunch followed back at River Café & Terrace, offering one last chance to enjoy the hotel’s renowned riverside dining. Afterward, the group had free time at leisure, with ICONSIAM, Bangkok’s premier shopping and lifestyle complex, just a short distance away. Some took the opportunity for last-minute shopping, browsing high-end boutiques and local artisan stores, while others simply soaked in the vibrant atmosphere of one of the city’s most iconic retail destinations.

As the evening set in, the group reconvened for their final dinner at The Peninsula Lawn, an elegant farewell gathering set against the shimmering Chao Phraya River. With a carefully curated menu and a relaxed yet sophisticated ambiance, it was the perfect setting to reflect on an unforgettable journey through Thailand’s luxury offerings.

Day 9: Flight home with Thai Airways

With their bags packed and memories made, the agents transferred to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, where they checked in for their return flight on Thai Airways flight TG910, departing at 00:15. Settling into the comfort of Business Class, they enjoyed the impeccable service one last time before drifting into sleep on the overnight journey back to London Heathrow.
